If you are a gal struggling with trying to eat intuitively, yet find that you
are continually consuming more than you want at each meal; this
exercise might be helpful to you. It's called the Middle of the Road
Slide.
As soon as you sense that your physiological hunger is beginning to get
satisfied, take your plate and move it to the right or left, out of
visual range.
Resist the urge of wanting to do anything to destroy your food, such as
wetting it, tossing cigarette butts or tea bags on it or pouring salt, pepper or hot sauce on the
remaining food.

In a continuing pursuit of my goal to become an NLP coach and trainer, I have just recently graduated my second Master Practitioner course of NLP training. Next year I begin as an Assistant Trainer at the NLP Center of New York. However this year our group has been focused on learning more about the art of storytelling and how that can help to give clients new resources for problemsolving. The specific type of storytelling to which I am referring is called a therapeutic metaphor. A therapeutic metaphor is a story that is constructed based on solving a specific problem for its listener.
Dr. Milton Erickson, the world famous hypnotherapist is best known for his use of this type of storytelling. Dr. Erickson was one of three therapists who were studied by the two original creators of NLP, Bandler and Grinder. Fritz Perls, Virginia Satir and Milton Erickson were modeled by Bandler and Grinder in order to learn how they were so successful with their patients. By studying each of the therapists, Bandler and Grinder developed special “patterns” for general communication, rapport-building and self-improvement. Erickson's unique ability to communicate with his clients came from his method of telling them stories. He told his patients stories in order to guide their subconscious mind to solving their own problems, change limiting beliefs and break unuseful habits and patterns.

Connirae Andreas is the creator of the "Naturally Slender Eating Strategy." She is also one of the original co-developers in the field of Neuro Linguistic Programming. As a therapist, she has helped thousands of people to overcome fears, phobias and various other experiences in their lives that have blocked their lives. To get more information and read the strategy in its entirety, read the book that she co-authored with her husband, Steve Andreas, called, “Heart of the Mind."
This post and several others like it will take excerpts from the interview that I enjoyed with Connirae last week. This post will describe the importance of choosing foods that 'kiss your being.' I encourage you to visualize your food choice as the loving mother depicted in the photo and you as the infant child seeking nourishment.

Connirae Andreas, well known therapist, trainer and co-developer of Neuro Linguistic Programming has graciously agreed to allow me to interview her tomorrow, Tuesday, February 27, 2007 to discuss her Naturally Slender Eating Strategy. Connirae has always been slender and realized back in 1979 that this
was no genetic accident. She recognized that she actually had acquired
a strategy that enabled her to maintain her natural slender body/mind connection. Over the next couple of weeks, I will be attempting to model her way of eating intuitively.
You can read her strategy in the book that she co-authored with her husband, Steve Andreas. The title of the book is, "Heart of the Mind: Engaging Your Inner Power To Change With Neuro Linguistic Programming.

Have you ever drooled when you saw a piece of chocolate cake or swooned when you heard a favorite song play on the radio? Perhaps every time you see an image of the American flag, you think of reciting the Pledge of Allegiance. In Neuro Linguistic Programming, we call those anchors.
Anchors are representations that we can choose to create for ourselves that can lead us into being and feeling a certain way. That's right. You can choose how you want to feel. Anchors stir our brain to remember something. Unfortunately, advertisers use this all the time. That means that people can easily install anchors in you without you knowing it. Yet you can easily collapse them when you realize that for some reason you’re feeling bad and don’t know why.

In Neuro Linguistic Programming (NLP), there is a presupposition that states:
"There is a positive intention behind every behavior even if it is not easily recognized or understood."
As I sat in my Weight Watchers group this Saturday morning, I listened to my fellow Weight Watcher members, as they shared their stories of how food became so important to them throughout their lives. We laughed and poked fun at our "bad" habits. The meeting was organized around teaching that we

You can lose more weight each week and enjoy a greater degree of success by adding the tool of Mental Rehearsal to your toolbox. Since the mind and body are one system, your mind can help you to prepare your body for the actual situation in which you want to behave or act in a certain way. This is a technique that is practiced by all top performers in every field. Just like an athlete prepares for an olympic event or a public speaker prepares for a presentation, you can apply these principles to weight control.
The first step is to choose a specific situation where you want to respond in a more resourceful way. It is said that the mind can not tell the difference between a vividly imagined thought and reality.
